Born in 1934 in New York City. PhD in Engineering Physics. In 1954, Moog began building electronic musical instruments, particularly theremins, and in 1964, introduced electronic music modules and synthesizers. Moog Music created various synthesizers until the 1970s, with the collaboration of some leading musicians. Later Moog founded Big Briar, Inc. to design and build novel electronic music equipment, especially new types of performance control devices. From 1989 to 1992, he was Research Professor in the Music Department of the University of North Carolina. In 2001, he reclaimed the Moog Music trademark, and in 2002, Big Briar changed its corporate name to Moog Music Inc. Moog's accolades include honorary doctorates from Berkeley College of Music and a great many of awards and prizes. He has written and spoken widely on topics related to music technology, and has contributed major articles to the Encyclopedia Britannica and the Encyclopedia of Applied Physics. |
