Tadanori Yokoo has worked as a graphic designer since 1960. Among his many awards are the Grand Prize for Prints at the 6th Paris Youth Biennale (1969). So great was his international acclaim that MoMA mounted a one-man show of his art in 1972. In 1981, Yokoo 'converted' to painting, and submitted his work to various overseas biennials, whether invited or selected. In 1995 he received the Mainichi Art Award. Yokoo was inducted into the New York ADC Hall of Fame in 2000. In 2001 he was awarded the Purple Ribbon Medal. His work can be found in the collections of 80 art museums around the world. These past few years he has launched one-man shows at several art museums.
