The most important thing for creators is self-discipline.

The theme of this Congress is VISUALOGUE: Quality of Information. What image does this bring to mind?

When you enter the international arena as a designer, it doesn't matter what project or which collaborator you encounter. As long as you are completely sure of your own visual language and refuse to shrink from thoroughly expressing your ideas and opinions, your design journey will be an effective one. A designer shouldn't be a slave to information. Information is nothing more than a trigger for developing our own creativity.

Please describe one of your recent concerns or themes of interest, either within your field or personally.

I began my career as a graphic designer and art director, but my canvas has expanded to include exhibition, film, stage and even circus design. I'm interested in how far the boundaries of expression will stretch in the future. While raising the overall quality of design is very important, I'm also interested in using the power of design to excite the audience, and am currently experimenting with that. My efforts in this are much like those of an entertainer striving to play to his audience.

What are your expectations for this Congress? Alternately, what fruit do you expect the Congress to bear?

We used to believe that the twenty-first century would be the century of abundance and brighter prospects. Contrary to our expectations, it has emerged as an age of uncertainty, rife with seemingly unresolvable conflicts. I am very interested to hear the thoughts of those who will converge at the conference from around the world, particularly at a time like this. The design profession is about to undergo major changes; What's important is our resolution that design must exist to make people's lives richer.

Please provide us with a message directed to the younger generation (design students and young working designers).

Be confident and sure-footed without succumbing to the flood of information around you. Nurture your own beliefs, independent of prevailing trends. Only those who stay the course on the long journey of design- those with the ability to focus and concentrate like a marathon runner -will become true creators. The most important thing of all is self-discipline.
